Product Description
Viair 400P-Automatic Function Portable Compressor offers automatic function. The unit contains an onboard pressure switch that allows the unit to run until an internal pressure of 145 PSI is achieved at which point, the compressor will shut off. To start the compressor, attach to a tire valve stem and squeeze the trigger on the supplied gas station style inflation gun. Once air flows out of the unit, the compressor will restart. It can inflate up to a 35-inch tire from 0 to 30 PSI in less than 5 minutes. Air pressure can be monitored by releasing the trigger on the inflation gun, which will show current tire pressure.

A Bit Overpriced

While it functions exactly as advertised and does a great job of inflating the tires on my truck and travel trailer, in my opinion it's a bit overpriced for the level of quality as received.I definitely don't mind paying for high-quality, and for the selling price of this portable compressor, that's exactly what I expected to get. However, my unit arrived with bare stranded wire exposed exposed for about 1/2" next to the inline fuse in the power cord. This appears to have occurred when the paired power cord wire was pulled apart and stripped during assembly at the factory. My unit also had some tiny spots of surface rust on the diamond plate base (which has the appearance of stainless steel but must be made of chrome-plated mild steel). Lastly, the pressure gauge attached to the inflator reads 5psi higher than actual tire pressure as verified by 3 other high-quality tire pressure gauges I have.While these shortcomings weren't enough to cause me to go through the hassle of returning the unit I received and requesting a replacement, it's disappointing to find these kinds of defects considering the high selling price.At least it does perform as advertised, seems well engineered, and is very useful.

Solid product

Yes, this thing was made in China but what are we going to do, they all are. I have used this unit several times since I got it and it rides in my SUV everywhere. You can fill up truck tires and smaller items like bicycle tubes just fine. This model has auto shut off so you can use it by only squeezing the triggle, you don't have to keep turning the unit on and off. I like this because I can have the trigger part far away from the pump where the on off swicth is. The unit must be connect to a car battery to work. FYI> I contacted the company here in the USA and they said you "can't" make it run from a transformer if you want to rig it to work from a home recepticle. They also answered a number of other questions, were quick to reply to my email and seemed customer service oriented. I would recommend buying from this manufacturer. The unit seems of very good and solid quality. The hose disconnects from the trigger and from the pump so if you want to change the components out, you could. The triggle with the guage on it is quite nice and heavy and better than I thought it would be. The only complaints I have with it is, I wish I didn't have to have it attached to the car for operation. It would be great if I could plug it in to a wall receptical because it is so handy, quick and easy to use. I also have never been a fan of the type of valve that is used in this unit to attach it to a valve stem. There are only so many ways to do it but trying to hold the valve tightly enough on a stem while using a great deal of strength to flip the switch closed is something that has left me wanting since I was a kid trying to pump up my BMX tire. It works great, I just like the service station type valve better. Maybe it could be changed out later I guess. Overall good product, highly recommended.

Generally satisfied

I am generally satisfied with this air compressor. The clamps are well made, unlike the cheap ones on the 300P version. The automatic function is convenient. However, I still wish the power cables and the yellow hose were longer than they are now. I also wish the gauge numbers increment by 10, not 20.
