Product Description
Welcome to Roth Audios AFLiE. The ALFiE combines all facets of the audio visual world into one sleek, beautiful piece. The integrated iPod dock means the entertainment hub is ready and waiting for your Apple portables tunes, while the rear panels auxiliary-in socket means you can swiftly hook-up any MP3 player. CDs, of course, are catered for including recordable discs while movie fans can drop in a DVD, letting ALFiE provide vision as well as sound. Happy to lounge in any room in the house, the Roth Audio systems radio alarm and bundled remote control mean ALFiE is especially designed for the office or bedroom application. Where ever you envision this piece within your home, you can rely on Roth Audio to supply high-quality sound and vision. The units built-in audio engine is no slouch, powering out a total of 40 watts, and using a 2.1 amplifier and speaker combination to provide room-filling sound. Sneak a peek under its chassis, and you realize the use of an ever-so-clever downward-firing subwoofer helps beef-up the tracks, while allowing ALFiE to maintain its trim figure. Adjustable bass and treble means you can control your ALFiE specifically to your preference; tone down or tone up for that matter depending on your mood. Naturally, for a machine from the tune-loving people that created the sublime-sounding Music Cocoon MC4, this unit doesnt just pound out a big sound, it also presents a beautiful sound. No home entertainment system is complete though more than a few claim to be without support for DVD. So whether you invite Freddy into your bedroom, Shrek into your playroom, ALFiEs selection of video outputs provide sharp images, while the 2.1 sound engine backs up the pictures with thrilling movie effects and soundtracks. Combined with your preferred TV this stand alone unit will provide all audio and video playback you desire.

Performs as advertised; nice design ; fun to use

Not being an extreme audiophile, I was slightly apprehensive about how this system would perform and if it would match up to our old multi-component system. So far so good! Plus the ability to use it as our primary DVD player is a nice added bonus. We are using as the main stereo in our living room (medium size room in an apartment) and it is sufficient. The iPod dock works great with our "old" iPod mini. The CD/DVD function works well as does the Video Out (using old RCA composite port not component; we have an old TV), Aux in, and FM tuner. The AM tuner has not been that good- there is an audible hissing sound even with the "Talk" feature on the remote enabled (though that feature does improve it a bit). So other than the AM tuner, we have been pleased, and didn't have to spend an arm an leg as with the Bose stuff...Finally, I have to admit the system is quite cute and cuddly while being slick. Alfie is our friend.Cheers.

Great product, great design, but...

...the bass is a bit overpowering, even at the lowest setting. My only other complaint is that the characters on the remote are hard to read. There's no excuse for that - especially in this price range. Otherwise, it is beautifully designed and feels very substantial. Everything works well. I originally bought a Polk I-Sonic ES2 but returned it - the Polk unit sounded great, but the construction reminded me of an inkjet printer - very light weight and flimsy. The Alfie sounds & feels like a high quality product. It's a bit expensive and probably doesn't put out as much sound as the Bose Acoustic Wave, but this machine has many more features than the Bose - at a lower price.
