Introducing iOptron SmartStar-E-R80 Entry Level telescope. Designed with the latest technology the 80 mm lens is crafted with a fluorite based, low dispersion glass that is ground and polished to exact specifications. The precision design is excellent for viewing bright stars, planets and their moons, as well as for bird watching and other land objects. Two eye pieces come standard to allow for flexibility in viewing either a wider field or a single focused object. The SmartStar-E-R80 refractor telescope comes with our patented Alt-Azimuth Mount, a.k.a. The Cube, rated 4-star by Sky and Telescope Magazine. This compact mount design is probably the most functional and flexible unit on the market. Both axis motors are built into a small single unit which is universally compatible with all telescopes using a dove-tail connection. In addition, there are no “dead spots” – so you can point your telescope to ANYWHERE above the horizon, whereas, other mounts block the telescope tube at certain points of rotation. This mount also comes standard with AC connection. The GoToNova hand Controller on each SmartStar telescope is much easier to use than other similar products. The hand controller is more intuitive with menu categories better organized. It also has a larger LCD screen with more lines of content compared with the competition. Excellent unit for the price.

A great telescope for the price. This is the first telescope I've had with a motorized controller. It works great. As stated in the instruction;setup is critical. The unit must be aligned with South first. A compass is a must. The leveling procedure is next; it also is critical.The setup instructions are okay. I had to print out the online manual for clarification.Enjoy with your family.

good scope for the price,

This is a good scope for the price. It is a little complicated to use but easy to figure out from the instructions. You also need a compass to get correct alignment,

This seems like a great telescope for the price.... However it is missing a very important piece upon arrival. I completely assemebled it to find out the 5x24 finderscope is not there. I am very upset. I bought this for my son's birthday and I need all of the pieces asap. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you. When I have all of my pieces I will rerate this item. Until then it gets 1 star. P.S. There was no customer service number or seller e-mail anywhere on Amazon that I could find. (I called the customer service number on the packaging but they were closed).UPDATE:I e-mailed the customer service at ioptron from the their website and was immediately responded back to. Although the advertisement states that this product includes a finderscope, the customer service at ioptron said that this model stopped coming with finderscopes (even thought there is a slot for them) in 2008..... They shipped me out a finderscope free of charge (normally $25 due to this error. Great customer service, great poduct, but someone needs to change the details of what comes with a telescope that costs over $300. As a consumer I expect to get what I pay for and what is promised. Thank you John with ioptron for your help.P.S. very speedy delivery. I got this telescope the day after I ordered it. It is VERY BEAUTIFUL and easy to assemble.
