A powerhouse!

I purchased this mixer (in white, not gray) for use in my home as the reviews for household mixers haven't been the greatest. I make cookies and a lot of bread, so I was looking for a powerful mixer that could hold up without "complaining". My 22 year old KitchenAid is a good mixer but I could tell it was straining with the heavier doughs and batters--and even pushed out some black grease at one point, so I have retired it to light duty.The commercial quality is obvious from the moment you pick it up to put it on the counter. It is VERY heavy and needs a permanent place on the counter, as you would never want to need to put it away every time you used it.It only has three speeds (really all you need) and is extremely simple to operate. But you need to remember that you have to shut the mixer off between speed changes. You also need to make sure the agitator (beater, dough hook, or whisk) has completely stopped spinning before changing speeds. This is not a problem as it stops very quickly. Other than that, if you have ever owned a KitchenAid, using this mixer is intuitive.The first thing I tackled was a very heavy cookie dough. This mixer plowed through it like it wasn't even there! I have yet to make anything else as I only have it for a few days.My husband is convinced that you could mix up a small batch of cement with it!Overall, if you can fit it into your budget, I highly recommend this mixer as I'm sure it will be the last one I will ever have to buy and if it's possible for an appliance such as this to become a family heirloom, this is it!

Awesome Machine

Bought one 20 years ago to make bread and I use it often to make fantastic three-day rustic loaves. Has accessory socket that accepts all Kitchen Aid goodies like meat grinder and sausage stuffer. I love Italian recipes calling for mix of beef, pork and veal or lamb. The meat grinder facilitates getting a few cheap chops to make these mixes. Only appliance with a place of honor on my counter.

Great mixer with limits

Powerful mixer that can mix almost anything. I have broken two Kitchenaids trying to mix artisan bread dough so I purchased an older N50 and it worked great until I decided to mix bagel dough which is very stiff. It stripped the low speed gear within 5 minutes. I had it repaired and now the gear popped out while mixing 5 sticks of cold butter. I was told by my friendly Hobart repair guy that bagel dough also breaks larger mixers, it is too stiff. Based on some of my own calculations in order for a Hobart mixer to mix bagel dough without stripping gears each cup of floor cannot exceed 1 quart of capacity. I mix a 20 cup batch of dough so I need a 20 qt mixer. So for the average baker this is the best machine on the market as long as your dough is not stiff and does not exceed the 5 quart capacity.
