3A solid performer, but for a $450 MSRP falls short.
By A. Warsi
I have always admired this particular Bulova when I used to sell watches, especially when someone was looking for a little bit of flash for an affordable price. So when one of my co-workers was retiring we thought that a watch such as this would be a nice farewell present. I will go over some of the details of this watch as follows:Materials: this watch is made out of stainless steel and has a brushed and polished offset band similar to the Omega Constellation; actually this is a blatant rip off of the Omega for the more budget minded consumer. But the materials are top notch for a watch in this price category, nicely polished and brushed links with a polished bezel with engraved numerals trimmed in black, very classy. The entire watch is made of stainless including the backing and clasp and is anti-magnetic, shock-resistant, and hypoallergenic.Crystal: Standard mineral crystal here (Bulova likes to call it Dura-Crystal) basically hardened glass that will withstand potential bumps, nicks, and scratches. Nothing to write home about but it will do the job, flat and level with the bezel.Clasp: Nice stainless steel double deployment clasp found on watches that cost much more. Clasp snapped snuggly in place and felt strong and taught, felt as if it was going to stay that way for a very long time. Pretty easy to open and close, this clasp can be opened and closed in no particular order meaning one side doesn't have to be closed or opened before the other side does. Well made sturdy design will offer years of use.Diamond Bezel: As everything in life, things in pictures always look better. The same goes here for this so called diamond bezel. To make things clear there are actually only 16 diamonds around this bezel, four in each line between each Roman numeral lining the bezel. There is what I like to call place holders between each diamond; basically the metal is cut a certain way to make it look like a diamond when it's really not. So this is the way it works on the bezel, place holder, diamond, place holder, diamond, and so on with up to four diamonds in each row on the bezel. So what looks like 36 diamonds on the bezel is in actuality 16. But if you want a little bit of bling this watch does it nicely.Dial: I have seen mother of pear used on all different manufactures of watches and I have to say that the MOP dials that Bulova uses are below average. MOP is supposed to have a nice shinny sheen to it with a multitude of colors including pink, blue, purple, pearl, and so on. For whatever reason the MOP dials that Bulova uses are just plain, hardly any shine and with no real pop in color. ESQ and Swiss Army use some nice MOP in their watches and compared to Bulova it's pretty sad quality when you compare it to Bulova's competition.Movement: Not many people know this but most Bulova's that are under $300 have Japanese quartz movements. On the more expensive watches these movements are upgraded to Swiss and on a watch at this MSRP it really should have had a Swiss movement. But none-the-less this watch has a pretty standard Japanese movement that in all fairness will last for years and years. This watch also has the date at six o'clock that is frames in silver for a nice touch; this movement also includes a second hand. Watch is also water RESISTANT (not water proof) to about 100 ft., so if you are going to get it wet when washing dishes or in a six foot deep pool you are safe. But as always it's recommended you stay away from getting a watch submerged in water unless you have to.Overall: I give this watch 3 stars out of five, a solid well made watch that tries to look like a Mercedes or BMW but ends up more like a Hyundai. A great watch with quality materials but falls short on overall fit in finish (low quality MOP dial, movement, crystal) compared to other watches costing $450 MSRP. I ended up getting this watch from an online retailer for around $100 (minus the Bulova watch box though) and have seen it for between $130 to $150 respectively. At that price the watch is a good buy, personally I would save up and get something a little better in quality such as something from the Bulova Marine Star with diamond bezel collection. But if you are on a budget and want a little luxury then this watch will do the job. No major complaints and I do recommend this watch but Amazon's asking price is a tad high.

Smooth and easy transaction and NO problems with a return. Product was fine . . . just wasn't what I was looking for.
