By S. Singh
I recently bought Sperry Topsiders and while it fit very well and was comfortable, the leather wasn't very thick. I upgraded from a 3 yr old Timberlands boat shoes (still looking good but the sole has worn out) and felt the Sperry's leather to be inferior, especially for the price. I don't like returning stuff after I've worn it so I kept the Sperry's.Next up was Sebago. I got the "Blue Nite" and it's a gorgeous color (the blue is very dark and the white laces accents it very well). Though the Sebago has firmer leather (and thicker) so it did take me 2 days (wearing with socks) to break it in.During the break-in period, the shoes are a little uncomfortable (due to firmer leather) but once they break in, the shoes are very comfortable and mold to the feet very well. The Sebago run true to size (I have 9.5 feet and ordered the same size shoes).Though the cushioning on the Sebago (and same as of Sperry) is barely enough (my old Timberlands had better arch/heel support over Sebago/Sperry). I remedied this by using additional rubber in-soles that I had in my Nike shoes.I love the Sebago now (albert the things I mentioned above). Been wearing it to work (khakis/shirt) and casual (t-shirt/no socks/shorts). Already got several compliments (again, the Blue Night is gorgeous). Those that are new to Sebago, my recommendation is =>i) Let it break in (wear with socks for couple of days)ii) Use additional in-soles for better heel supportiii) wear the hell outta these shoes :-) (I'm only 35 but been wearing boat shoes since my twenties)

these are made very narrow. Normally i wear medium width, which is what I orderd. Should have bought the Wides, like I did for the next pair of Docksides. Apart from that, great shoes

The leather is definitely thick and I recommend the Obenauf's leather treatment upon receiving the shoes, but that's neither here nor there. I didn't like the fit at first. Either my other shoes that I gauged the size off of ran small, or these ran large. However, I tightened down the laces a little and wore them around, and they're breaking in well. After further consideration, any smaller of a size and they would probably be too tight. So my suggestion is go with what size shoe you normally wear like i did. The leather's pretty thick, so you'll have to wear the crap out them to break them in, but if you use the leather treater, it doesn't take as long and the leather lasts longer. Hope this helps. Overall, very good shoes. Worth every penny.
