Azden FMX-42 Field Mixer

I love this little gem. I was considering a Sound Devices until I saw the price comparison and decided to give this one a go (at ~20% of the price). It has all the professional features and the quality is top notch (it's made in Japan, not China). All four balanced XLR line/mic inputs have individually switched 48V phantom power and limiters. There are level and pan controls and low cut switches for each input and a master level control for the output. The XLR balanced outputs are switchable between +4dBu and +20dBu. There is a 1/4" phones connector, with level control, and an unbalanced 3.5mm stereo output. S:N (-120 dBu) and T.H.D. (<0.005%) are extremely low and the bandwidth is 20 Hz to 30 KHz (1.5 dB). There is a 1 kHz slate mic and also a tone gen (+4dBu) for levels and marking takes. The VU meters are illuminated if you switch on their lights. It runs off 6 AA batteries or an optional 12V AC to DC brick. If you buy the AC adaptor, make sure you get the BC-27H (with the 4-pin Hirose connector, it's 20 bucks more, sorry), NOT the BC-27. Their website states both will fit, but it's not so. I bought the wrong one first and had to exchange it. Also, Amazon lists only the wrong one - you will have to get the correct one from Azden. Supplied with a nice fitted bag (a bit tight, though) with flaps and hook&loop in all the appropriate access areas and a little pouch in front for extra batteries or other small accessories.Very compact, versatile, and easy to carry.
