excellent pen

I bought this pen from another retailer 3 years ago and it's still running smoothly as it did the first time it touched the paper. The ink does not dry out on the nib and whether you use it once a day or once a fortnight, it writes as if it never paused writing. It's my best pen so far, and I do own a Waterman and two Parkers besides it.A.

I purchased this pen after scouring the internet for a good fountain pen that I could afford. I am an artist and calligrapher, and this pen is exactly what I had hoped it would be. I had never used a Pelikan pen before, but I must say that the piston mechanism for filling the pen works very well, allowing for endless ink color possibilities, since one is not limited to cartridge colors. The nib seems to just glide across the page, with no grabbing, splattering or skipping. I love this pen!

I've had this pen for almost 20 years, and it still writes like a dream, doesn't leak, and looks almost like new. The only evidence of age is that the gilt nib has tarnished around the point where it enters the section of the pen. Presumably this is due to the harsh environment of the ink. Remarkably, the pen is *cheaper* now than it was when I bought it. This pen is a large cut above the beginner fountain pen category dominated by Lamy Safaris and the like. The aesthetics are a lot nicer, indeed the trim appointments are on par with the Pelikan 400, a much more expensive pen. Perhaps the biggest amenity is the piston filling system, which is typically only found on much more expensive pens. Its advantage is a much larger ink capacity and general elegance compared to cartridge/converter systems. The pen is a very comfortable size, thinner than the Safari, but not super thin. The pearlescent finish on the barrel sleeve catches the light beautifully.Best of all is the nib. Pelikan nibs are smooth, consistent and reliable. I've owned many Pelikans over the years and cannot remember getting a bad nib, something which I cannot say about any other fountain pen manufacturer. Highly recommend.
