The Starrett CP505A-12 ProSite Protractor is a great step-up over the original. The improved version includes the angle/miter-cut reader that made the first one so popular, along with some added features. What's new is a table on the back that gives the user an easy reference for setting compound miter angles for any wall configuration. On a recently completed crown moulding job with various angled walls, the compound miter table did all of the math; that feature alone makes it worth the price. In addition there is a protractor and roof pitch scale on the back. I would highly recommend this protractor to anyone who regularly deals with angles in their work.

By Mike
I owned the previous Starrett version of the protractor, and while an excellent product, it was not dead accurate. The angular marks on the dial were engraved on a decal which, unfortunately, was not applied with precision. The angular marks on this tool, however, are applied by laser and are dead nuts on. This tool will save you time, material (i.e., money) and , most importantly, aggravation. It is a very cool tool with roof pitch info and a crown molding table. All index marks on this tool are applied with a laser. The reason I give it a 4 of 5 is, unlike its predecessor, it does not come with a leather carrying case (must buy it as an accessory). If I could give it 4 1/2 stars, I would. Otherwise this tool is a thing of beauty.

By M. Ross
This is an excellent tool that has many features. It is heavy and well-made, and the movement of the legs is smooth but retains the angle well. It is nice that the dial face and outer scale are etched- not a plastic decal. The scale is spot-on and accurate. This is an essential layout tool for contractors and those homeowners who have competent carpentry skills.
