Best Gerber multitool yet

I love multitools and knives. I have many Gerbers as well as Leathermans and others. I find the gerber multitools a bit lacking overall but this particular model is very nice. The fit and finish are very good compared to the 400/600 series and the diesel as well as the suspension,flik and freehand. The tools are accessible without opening the pliers. The knife blade is a combo edge and is kind of small but is very sharp and is easy to keep that way. The bead blast finish does make it slightly more suceptible to rust but if you keep it clean after cutting, it should not be an issue. The spring loaded pliers are very nice and heavily built. They don't open as wide as Leatherman,Sog and Victorinox multitools though. This may or may not be an issue for you. The replaceable carbide wire cutters are a nice touch which are just now being copied in Leatherman's new supertool 300 (LM uses 154cm stainless for their cutters instead of carbide) The remgrit saw is very nice. A few years back my friend had a flat tire and his spare was padlocked under his truck. He forgot his key and we were far from home. A gerber 600 with the remgrit saw was the only thing we had that would cut it. It took awhile but it got the job done and we were back on the road. The fiskars scissors are very sharp and cut very well even though they are short. The screwdrivers are well made but are too short IMO. There is room for longer ones but all Gerber multi's have very short drivers. This model is made in USA. At least mine is. Most of the newer gerber MT's are from China.

Rusts

The tool has worked well for 3 months now but it is beginning to rust already, I don't abuse my tools but I was expecting it to sit in the car's glove box as a back up when needed and not rust, it's only surface rust but even after light oil it still is showing some surface rust, not good compared to other multi tools and other gerbers I own.

Very good tool

I received this tool as a replacement for the Gerber 700. My 700 broke and Gerber honored the warranty by using this 800 model as a replacement. The 800 is a bit larger than the 700, but otherwise they are very similar. This tool includes scissors (larger than in the 700)large, medium and small flat head screwdrivers and a Phillips head screwdriver. It also has a "RemGrit GJ-4 saw blade for some purpose I have not yet figured out. This is a replaceable blade. My complaint with this tool is the blade is both a serrated and straight blade. I prefer the blade be straight as that can be sharpened easier/better. The serrated blade can only be sharpened on the flat side, unless one takes special steps with the serrated blade. The pliers snap into place, are the standard style (not that flip it out style) which I prefer. The locking mechanism works well. All in all a very good tool.
