Upgraded my entire HT after 10 years with an old Sony projection and Aiwa 5.1 "package" to include an Onkyo TX-SR707, a pair of Polk Audio VM 30s and a Polk VM 20 as center and Polk DSW Pro 600 as sub (plus other speakers to support 9.1)Based on my corner room layout and fireplace hearth restrictions, the depth and width of the speaker was my priority motivator for selecting these over other Polk or competing brands. The depth and width did have me concerned but knowing I had a powerful sub to compensate. All the reviews are correct that you need a sub with the VM30's and VM20's.Speakers have decent specs and sit on beautiful smoked glass bases with either rubber feet or carpet spikes. I do not find them unstable on my carpet but I suspect that must vary by carpet. Not being an audiophile AT ALL, these speakers sound pretty decent. Does it sound like Clapton or Nora Jones are playing in my living room when the sound is optimized by Audyssey MultEQ or can I brag about sound stage or brightness (I don't know what those mean)....uhm no...but this is probably a setup problem that my limited knowledge doesn't know how to solve with adjustments right now. But based on the price I paid they sound great to me.My primay use 80% of the time is for Home Theatre (HD TV 5.1 and Blu-Ray with linear PCM sound etc) some PS3 and Wii. These speakers really envelope you in the action (with the sub) of the movie. The matching VM20 center (as recommened Polk) really matches the the two VM 30s and outperforms the Bose VM 30 that I bough on eBay(used for a month, then decided to dump as the Bose was always forcing us to turn up the volume).I could not beat the price. I stumbled across the Polk Audio eBay store (from the Polk Where To Buy Page) and found all this equipment at less than 1/3rd the cost sold as Refurbs......which as alll reports indicate, are NEW quality. I bought the two VM30's for $650! These are $2000 speakers. A DSW Pro 600 for $350 ($700 list) and TWO VM 20's for $350 ($1000 list)! So keep an eye on the Polk eBay store for steals! refurb =NEW!

Purchased 3 pair of VM30 + VM20 center.Detail & imaging is accurate & fast. Need sub as mentioned in most reviews.A little light/tipsy @25lbs each. Cables cannot be to large due to bottom access to single binding posts. And last but not least by long shot is the video shielding is short of nonexistent. If you have a CRT for monitor (PC or television)beware they will damage if not placed far enough away. When confronting Polk they stated they were lightly shielded & were not intended for near crt's.

I receved my VM-30s last week. Here are my impressions:1. I put it through the paces, at first without a sub. You need a sub. Lows are weak. I turned on a Velodyne that is old - 1990. Boy these speakers came alive.2. Excellent midrange.3. Above average transparency.4. Functions well with a lower power amp; I have a Sony ES with 100.5. Crisp highs. Excellent for chamber music.6. I got mine from High Decibels online for around $750, with about $90 in shipping each.7. These speakers look fabulous.
