By Jaroslav Melgr
This is one of our favorite engines. We've said it in another review that KATO engines are the best! And this one is one of the best KATO ever made. It runs very quiet, very smooth and is just a beautiful piece of work. It has beautiful, pure white directional lights, including ditch lights in front and is DCC ready. You can just pop the hood off and take out the light board and plug in a DCC decoder then slip the hood back on. It's that easy.Whether you run it on DC or DCC layout, you are bound to enjoy this engine and have a lot of fun with it. It has magnetic couplers installed, snow plow and a good level of detail as any other KATO engine. The price of these is comparable to any other manufacturer, in fact you can find them cheaper than other, yet KATO is truly the best. It's made in Japan, KATO is probably the only manufacturer who does not make their engines in China. Take the hood off and enjoy its fine workmanship.I would not hesitate to recommend KATO engines to anyone. This one is no exception. The one thing to keep in mind when buying an engine is the size of your layout and the sharpness of your curves. If you have a small layout with 9 and 3/4 inch curves than you want to buy a four axle engine. This one is a six axle and any six axle engine will not run well on curves that sharp. But that's obviously not a problem with the engine, but a constraint of the layout. So if you have sharp curves on your layout, look for a four axle KATO engine, they sure make them. You won't regret it.
